The Woodlands Post #12024

Mid-Winter

VFWMG Report

Unit 1 – The Woodlands

Has made a total of 15 runs and activities dating from September 17, 2005 through January 3, 2006, which helped out at least 9 Post in 4 different Districts.  We have recruited several new members for the Post and Auxiliary because of the Motorcycle Group interest and have a total of 33 Members including Auxiliary and Support members.

Unit 2 – Abilene

They held their first official meeting on December 4, 2005.  They are now chartered and have a total of 28 members.  I will be presenting them with their charter in a meeting later this weekend.  They made their first run on January 8, 2006 and the next run is scheduled for February 12.  Mike has not only signed up members to the Motorcycle Group, but he has also recruited several new members for his Post and the Men’s Auxiliary because of the Motorcycle Group.

Unit 3 – Alvarado

They had their official meeting December 12, 2005.  They are well on their way to closing their charter out with a total of 23 members including Auxiliary and Support members.  They are meeting the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month for the first 90 days while they are trying to build up their charter.  Several of their members have made toy runs and other community projects with their motorcycles.  They too have signed up several new members for both their Post and their Auxiliaries because of the Veterans and Families of Veterans that want to be a part of the VFW Motorcycle Group.

We now have a total of 84 members; 54 VFW, 10 VFW Support, 13 Ladies Auxiliary and 7 Men’s Auxiliary that have joined since we got permission at the State Convention in June of 2005.  I get questions and new membership applications faxed to me at least every other day.  This Motorcycle Group has become a good recruiting tool and a good way to get new members involved with their Post.  I would like to thank Last Years Commander, Big John and this year’s Commander, Duane for allowing me to take the lead on this project.  I feel that these Units as well as the many more that will be formed up will become a great asset to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Texas.

There is a copy of this report in front of everyone.  Please, when you have the time take a minute to read a little more detail on all we have done thus far.  We are growing and doing good work for the VFW through the groups.

Respectfully Submitted,
