VFWMG Unit 4-4149 is active and well in MidlandTexas.   Interest abounds in the area and we have many new prospects.

On Sunday, October 1, 2006 the group traveled to the Veterans Home in Big Spring, Texas to pay a special visit to one of our decorated veterans.

Richard Samson, in his 80's now, is a recipient of the Navy Cross.   Impressive, huh?  Well, as a Veteran from both WWII and Korea, as well as Vietnam, he is honored with not only one Navy Cross, but three (3).

He is an amazing individual with all of his wits about him and many stories to tell.   He keeps the ladies jumping at the Veterans Home with his many affections.

It was a real treat for Mr. Samson as you can tell by the look on his face as he was surrounded by the very attentive ladies of VFWMG Unit 4-4149, Stacy Howell, Teresa Galloway and Carol DeBaun.   The ladies fell in love that afternoon and have adopted Mr. Samson through the Ladies Auxiliary.

The group spent a couple of hours surrounded by many veterans, strong and vital, living large in the Big Spring Home.   It was a true honor and priviledge to be with them.

Another trip to the home is scheduled for October 29th to take treats to the veterans for Halloween.   It's one of those places that is hard to stay away from .. . . . something about being around a great group of veterans stirs up pride in all of us.

By the way, congratulations to Vince Castillo.   His brand new Harley finally came in and he's been on it ever since.  Looking good, Vince!
