VFWMG UNIT 4-4149 Activity Report

March, 2007

Post-Aid:    Well, it is good to be busy.  Busy?  Well, maybe that's an understatement.   We have been on fire around Post 4149.  We've had alot to do, but what a great bunch of folks to help get it all done.   Cooperation, dedication and a "Get-r-Done" attitude abounds!!

The VFWMG hosted a Madri Gras party complete with live music from a down-home Cajun named Ponty Bone and the Squeezetones.

The event was a successful one and the proceeds will be used for repairs necessary at the Post.

We had an amazing turn-out and great public response when we advertised the presence of active military.  Six members of our ADOPT-A-UNIT Program were seated at a Table of Honor and presented with an Honorary Membership to our Post, as were their respective spouses into the Auxiliary.

Even members of the audience provided entertainment.

Can you identify the character below?   Hint:  He conducts Bible study at the Nursing Home.

As always, at any Post function, there were recruiting booths set up for the VFW, it’s Auxiliaries and the VFWMG, as well as literature and assistance given in all the VFW Programs.   Displays were set up to promote the M.A.P., Veterans Home, National Home and Buddy Poppy.

Lamon Lusk Sanchez Veterans Home:   Well, it was St Patrick's day and we spread a bit of the Irish Luck at the home, delivering lots of shamrocks. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders of MidlandChristianSchool helped us out and wrote letters to the Veterans.  Each one was person and included artwork done by the student.  The Veterans were thrilled to get the letters and some had tears in their eyes as they were read.  Some of the letters written by the children were to our active duty military and will be forwarded to the troops in Iraq

Group Ride:  Well the weather has cleared and we took a ride together.   We had a great time.  We met with the Coordinator of an upcoming event in Midland, "West Texas Troop Salute".   We have volunteered to help with the event which promises to be quiet an affair.  It will include the entire PermianBasin, housed at the big stadium and bring in 5,000 or so.   It will be a live web-cast to the Troops.   We're told that the Brass is going to be here, so it should be a good opportunity to SHOW OUR SUPPORT OF THE TROOPS and give more exposure to our Group.   Will tell you more in the next report.

Til then, keep the rubber side down.
