VFWMG UNIT 4-4149
Activity Report - October, 2007

Cooler weather is here and we are all enjoying time together on various rides.   We are called on a regular basis to participate in Welcome Home ceremonies for the troops returning to the Permian Basin.   Two of our members are on the board for the Patriot Guard which enables us to be among those first notified.

We consider it a great privilege to form the flag line for these brave men and women several times a week.  We are there, wearing our vests and representing the Motorcycle Group proudly.   We take every opportunity to promote our organization and its program and spread patriotism in the community.   These ocassions lend a positive reflection to our Group as not only motorcycle riders, but as supportive Veterans.

Unfortunately, riding presents the element of danger and we were reminded of the fact when an Odessa couple, members of the Leathernecks, were involved in a serious accident that put both of them, man and wife, in intensive care for several days.    VFWMG Unit 4 joined in efforts with the Leathernecks, to raise money for the couples medical expenses.  The group attended "BIKER FOR ROAD RASH" to lend not only financial support, but to extend our hand of comradeship to a fellow group of riders.

Father Time has had it's way with our Post building.  Like so many across the State, our's is in need of repair and rennovations.   The VFWMG Unit 4 has been the driving force behind what we call "OPERATION UPGRADE".  We are dedicating time and effort to the needs of our facility in preparation of the returning Troops.  We will offer them a Post home they can be proud of.  Should any of you like to donate to our efforts . . . send checks or cash!!

It's not always all about leather and the road.   Sometimes, in our Group, it's about stupid looking costumes and the fairway.  We are a diversified Group indeed.  Again this year we organized the "SECOND ANNUAL VFW POST 4149 GOLF TOURNAMENT" to raise money for the Post.  We could fill several pages with pictures, but for the sake of embarrassment, we will only share a few.

Wild Bill McNeill, Sandra Davis, Felice (High Voltage) Davis and Cecil Davis

C.A. Threet, Dal Davis and Darrell (Kojak) Thornton

You will look long and hard to find a cuter "Witch" out of the golf course helping out for a good cause.  Rosa Tucker is always the life of the party for the VFWMG Unit 4.  Believe it or not . . . she only weighs about 100 lbs.

The awards ceremony and lunch were held at the Post Canteen.   Special thanks to T.J. and White Fox for the meal.

Speaking of the ladies, our Auxiliary members are always making us proud.  They not only do all they can for our Group, but they are actively supporting our Veterans.   They love the Veterans living in the Lamon Lusk Sanchez Veterans Home in Big Spring and travel monthly to extend care to the residents.  They hosted the Annual Fall Festival and took "Treats", no "Tricks".

Dozens of hand painted pumpkins were given away to brighten the rooms of these honored Veterans.

That's it for now, but we have many plans in the months to come.  Our best to the other Units and if you are ever in the neighborhood, stop by the Post.  We welcome you.

Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.
